Fibertect successfully field tested in oil spill clean-up

Grand Isle, Louisiana - According Texas Tech University, preliminary tests on absorbent Fibertect nonwoven, prove it is successful at picking up the oily paste washing ashore at beaches and marshes across the Gulf State region. The test took place on the soiled beaches of Grand Isle, Loisiana.

$37 million carbon fibre research centre for Australian university

Warun Ponds - A new research facility for carbon fibre innovation is to be established at Deakin University’s Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds, Victoria, Australia. The carbon fibre pilot plant will be part of the research facilities to be built at the Campus from a $37 million grant to Deakin University announced on Friday 21 May by Kevin Rudd, the country’s Prime Minister.

International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) 2009

Zurich – The steep reduction in global shipments of new textile machinery in 2008 following a strong investment period between 2003 and 2007 continued in 2009 in most of the segments. Compared to 2008 shipments of spinning machinery were down by -17% (short-staple spindles) and -26% (open-end rotors), of weaving machinery (shuttle-less looms) by -3% and of flat knitting machinery (electronic) by -12%.

Business booms for Canadian knitter after BP oil spill

Exeter, Ontario – Canadian warp and circular knitter Syfilco Ltd has reported its business is booming following the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Syfilco, a family business founded in the 1970s manufactures knitted polyester fabric sleeves and polyethylene netting sleeves that are filled with absorbent materials to create booms used to contain the spill in the Gulf.
